Sewage or liquid waste is expected to be generated from any temporary occupation site such as workers quarters and the site office. Indiscriminate dumping or improper handling of this waste may significantly affect the water quality of the nearest receiving waterbodies in terms of increased TCC and FCC levels if no proper sanitary facilities are provided to cater for sewage waste.
Protect water sources from sewage or liquid waste pollution.
10.1.1 Sanitary facility equipped with a sewage treatment system must be located more than 30 metres (minimum) from the top of the riverbank or distance specified in the Provide the sanitary facility at the site office and workers’ quarters.

10.1.2 The septic tank should be maintained regularly, at a minimum of once in every six (6) months, and recorded. De-sludging work must be conducted by an appointed contractor licensed under the Local Upon enforcement of the Sewerage Services Enactment 2017, the contractor who is appointed to carry out the operation, maintenance and desludging of the sewage treatment system (septic tank and small sewage treatment system), is required to be licensed by JPPS.
10.1.3 Prohibit direct discharge of untreated sewage into existing rivers or waterways.
10.1.4 Use prefabricated septic tanks made from polyethylene, glass fibre- reinforced plastic or pre-cast concrete. Get approval on the materials to be used from JPPS and SIRIM/ IKRAM. Refer to Plate 20.

10.2.1 Prohibit direct disposal of sewage into the river.
10.2.2 Equip barge/pontoon/tugboat with holding tanks.
10.2.3 Maintain the holding tank which complies with the Ministry of Health Guideline 1983 (Standard MS 1228:1991).
